Adelaide’s backline led the Fantasy charge at Metricon Stadium, as three Crows defenders posted career-best scores against the Suns.
Former Hawk Kyle Cheney topped 100 points for the first time in his seven seasons at AFL level.
Cheney collected 19 possessions, nine marks and six tackles for 107 points – the 12th highest score of all defenders for Round Six. The total saw Cheney’s overall season average jump by 12 points and his price soar by $18k.
A hamstring injury has seen an interrupted start to the 187cm defender’s career as a Crow, but he has still shown enough to prove he’s in Adelaide’s best 22. With a break even of just 35 this weekend, Cheney could be a nice Fantasy ‘stepping stone’ in the mid-price bracket.
New faces Jake Kelly and Jake Lever also broke new ground with impressive Fantasy scores in Round Six.
Kelly appears to be growing in stature each week since making his AFL debut in Round Three against Melbourne. The former rookie posted the best score of his young career against Gold Coast last week with 104 points from 19 disposals and an equal game-high 12 marks.
Fantasy coaches are jumping on board ‘The Bull’ too. He’s owned by over 10 per cent of the competition and will continue to rise in popularity given his break even of -15 for Round Seven.
Kelly has already grown by over $100,000 in price, so don’t delay any longer to add him to your side.
Another backman on the rise is draftee Jake Lever, who posted 90 points on debut from 17 touches and 10 marks.
Lever looked composed at the level and wasn’t overawed by the occasion, which could see him hold his spot for the short-term.
He isn’t as cheap as some of his peers given he was a first-round selection in last year’s National Draft - he’s already priced at $276,000 despite playing just one game. Move fast on the talented teen to get the best bang for your buck.
Fellow defender Matthew Jaensch continued his outstanding season last weekend, finishing as the top Fantasy performer in the clash at Metricon Stadium.
Jaensch’s 123 was his best score since Round Five last season and the second-highest total of his career. He was also the third-best scoring backman of the round and now sits sixth overall among all defenders for average points per game.
Once again Tom Lynch showed why he’s one of the best value buys in the competition this year. ‘The Chief’ slotted two goals from four scoring shots along with nine marks, five tackles and 16 possessions for 108 Fantasy points.
Lynch’s season-best score was his highest total since late 2013 after he endured an injury-ravaged Season 2014.
He’s added $115k to his value since the start of the year and is showing no signs of slowing down. Surprisingly, Lynch is still only in two per cent of all sides in AFL Fantasy.
Sam Jacobs (108) and Taylor Walker (105) were the round’s other centurions. Rory Laird (99) and Matthew Wright (91) also deserve special mentions for their best Fantasy scores of the season.
