Recruit Curtly Hampton has received his Crows number, taking over the No.17.
Hampton, 22, joined Adelaide in last month’s AFL Trade Period. A foundation player at Greater Western Sydney, the skilful and athletic utility played 51 games in four seasons for the Giants.
Hampton will move into the No.17 locker vacated by former Crow Sam Kerridge, who switched to Carlton in the Trade Period.
Kerridge played 15 of his 27 games in the No.17 after starting his career in No.29. Best and fairest winner Bernie Vince wore the No.17 before Kerridge. Vince, who debuted in the No.28, wore the jumper for six seasons before joining Melbourne.
Forward Scott Welsh is the most-capped No.17 at Adelaide. Welsh, who is fourth in the Club’s all-time leading goalkicking, wore the number in 129 games in 2000 – 2007. Another goalkicker, Scott Hodges, was the first Crow to wear No.17 in a game for premiership points.
Shane Tongerie, Matthew Collins and Ian Downsborough are also former owners of the jumper, which has been worn by eight different players in the Club’s history.
Hampton joins fellow recruits Dean Gore and Troy Menzel in receiving his new number. Gore will wear the No.36, while Menzel has taken over the No.32. Rookie Hugh Greenwood will wear No.20 in his first season at the Club.
The remaining numbers will be revealed following the AFL National and Rookie Drafts next week.
