Adelaide’s AFLW side will don a new guernsey for the 2023 AFLW Season.
Players will wear the same jumper as the men’s with the iconic navy blue, red and gold hoops.
When Adelaide’s guernsey was designed in 1990, it was done with the aim of making the colours and pattern mean something and resonate with players and fans.
As the Crows were the the first AFL team in SA, it was decided that the Club would wear the State colours - navy blue, red and gold.
Three-time Premiership star and Club Champion Anne Hatchard said being able to wear the same strip as the men further added to the ‘one club’ feel.
“I think it is awesome to be able to have a little bit of a change to our guernsey to work towards that one club and to have that represented along the women’s and the men’s is just amazing,” Hatchard told AFC Media.
“We want to be one Club, so the reaction from the girls was just awesome.
“We’re just going to wear those guernseys with a hell of a lot of pride.”
Adelaide’s AFLW side’s pre-season began at the start of June and Hatchard - an inaugural member of the team - was excited to get to work again.
“It has been awesome to get back on the track with the girls,” Hatchard said ahead of her eighth season.
“It has been a long offseason, so to be able to come back and train all together is awesome.
“The girls have been working really hard this offseason.
“It has been a tough two weeks to be honest, the girls are all fit and ready to go, so it has been exciting to crack into the pre-season because the season will come around pretty soon.”
The 25-year-old said her highlight of the first two weeks of pre-season had been watching the growth of the young girls coming through.
Hatchard said she was keen for the 2023 campaign to start as the side looked to atone for its Preliminary Final loss in Season Seven.
“I am looking forward to seeing some of these young girls get out on the field,” Hatchard said.
“The improvement I have seen during this offseason coming into this preseason has been amazing.
“I am keen to see these young kids come onto the field with us and hopefully work towards a premiership which is the ultimate goal.
“Playing in this team we love winning premierships so hopefully we can get there again this year.”
The guernsey will be available for purchase in mid-August.
The 2023 AFLW Season will kick off in the first week of September, with the full fixture to be released soon.
