Adelaide defender Tom Doedee is preparing for knee surgery in the next week and is in a positive mindset about his rehabilitation and return to football.

Doedee suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury against Gold Coast in Darwin on Saturday night and has spent the past few days recovering at home.

“Unfortunately Tom, as we saw, injured his knee in the first quarter in a marking contest on the weekend and scans the next day confirmed an ACL injury,” Crows High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said.

“He’s going to be away from the Club for a couple of days and have surgery in the next week or so.

“He’s well placed to attack his rehabilitation, he’s been through it before on the other knee which is unfortunate but in this case he knows what to expect so he’s in as positive a mindset as you can given his circumstance and he’ll start his rehab as soon as his surgery is complete.”

Burgess said Doedee would take confidence from seeing Rory Sloane’s impressive return to football this season after injuring his ACL last year.

“I think everyone has been really impressed by the condition that Rory has come back in,” Burgess said.

“So certainly Tom being a good mate of Rory’s, he’s been across everything that he’s done and will look to have the same sort of impact as what Rory has when he comes back next year.”

Shane McAdam (quad) and Hugh Bond (knee) have both been cleared to return from injury via the SANFL this weekend.

“Shane and Hugh were touch and go for last week, we thought giving them one extra week would put them in a better place to impact the game so they’ll both come in and play SANFL this weekend and we’re looking forward to having them back,” Burgess said.

Injury list as of Tuesday, June 6:

Andrew McPherson (quad) eight weeks

Zac Taylor (foot) eight weeks
