Adelaide Assistant Coach Scott Burns says a stint in Hawthorn’s SA-based hub during the 2020 season served as a flashpoint for his move to the Crows’ coaching unit.

Before joining the Crows prior to their 2021 campaign, Burns had 12 years of experience as an assistant, enjoying stints with West Coast (2008-2013), Collingwood (2014-2017) and Hawthorn (2018-2022).

Speaking on this week’s episode of The Crows Radio Show, Burns explained how the move to Adelaide came about.

“It was during 2020 the COVID-19 season, I actually stayed out in the Barossa Valley for an extended period of time in the hub as part of Hawthorn’s coaching group,” Burns said.

“With Mum and Dad living in the Adelaide Hills, during that time (in the hub) I was actually allowed to go and see them which was great and that really got me thinking about it (a move).

“As a family, we had always wanted to come back to Adelaide, and it ended up working out that after that 2020 season there was a good chance to do it with the opportunity with the Crows, so we did it.”

Since joining the Crows, Burns has taken the reins of the backline and worked closely with the Club’s young defenders.
