Adelaide and Hawthorn have played 46 times and the Hawks hold the bragging rights in the head-to-head ledger – 25 wins to 21.

Hawthorn has had the upper hand in recent times, winning three of the past five games.

The last time the two teams met was in Round 17, 2022, where Hawthorn won by 32-points, following a six-goal-to-one first quarter.

Hawks forward Mitch Lewis was the catalyst, kicking three first-term goals to finish with a bag of five.

Adelaide midfielder Rory Laird had a huge performance, setting a season-high in disposals with 42, along with seven tackles.

Adelaide and Hawthorn have played each other four times in an AFL final, with the Hawks the more successful side winning three of those contests.

The Crows’ one win occurred in the 1993 Elimination Final, where they triumphed by 15-points.

In that game, Matthew Liptak amassed 31 disposals and booted three goals. 

Adelaide’s first ever in the AFL and first win was against Hawthorn in Round One, 1991 and they announced themselves to the competition with a landslide 86-point victory.

Forwards John Klug, Bruce Lindner and Peter McIntyre all kicked four goals.

The Crows' largest victory against Hawthorn is 86-points and they have defeated the Hawks by that margin three times – Round One, 1991, Round Six, 2000 and Round 10, 2004.

Round Six, 2021 was a memorable game for Crows forward Riley Thilthorpe, who on debut kicked five goals, to go with 16 disposals and three contested marks.

In the past five meetings between the two teams, Laird has been dominant averaging 30.8 disposals, 4.6 tackles and 13.6 contested possessions.

Crows ruckman Reilly O’Brien has made his presence felt against the Hawks averaging 30.3 hit-outs, 18.8 disposals and 3.5 contested marks since 2020.

Hawthorn Captain James Sicily has led by example in defence against Adelaide, averaging 21.2 disposals, 8.6 marks and 6.2 rebound 50s. 

Forward Chad Wingard has played the Crows 15 times in his career, having spent seven years with cross-town rivals Port Adelaide and is now in his fifth season at Hawthorn.

In those games Wingard has been influential, averaging 1.9 goals and 16.6 disposals.

On Sunday afternoon, Adelaide’s midfield brigade will be looking to halt the impact of Hawthorn’s James Worpel, who is averaging 23.8 disposals, 6.2 clearances and 3.2 centre clearances a game this season.  

Hawthorns tall forwards will need to be on their A-game, with Adelaide defender Nick Murray in solid form, averaging 9.4 one percenters and 8.4 spoils a game, ranking him in the top-five in the AFL for both statistics.

Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks has coached against Hawthorn four times, where he holds an even record of two wins and two losses.

Since becoming Hawthorn Senior Coach in 2022, Sam Mitchell has coached against Adelaide just once and won that game.

As a player, Mitchell played the Crows 20 times and  held a winning record – 12 wins and eight losses.

Adelaide has struggled to get results in the nine games they have played in Tasmania, winning just two times.

The Crows have played at UTAS Stadium five times, winning once, with their last victory coming in Round 15, 2005. 

If Adelaide wins it will be the team’s fourth consecutive victory of the season and will help them hold their spot in the top eight.
