Brisbane Lions midfielder Jared Polec has nominated Port Adelaide as his preferred club.

Polec, 21, has requested a trade home to South Australia after three seasons in Brisbane.

Originally recruited with pick No.5 in the 2010 AFL Draft, the former Woodville-West Torrens junior played 16 AFL games for the Lions, but only one this season because of an ankle injury.

General Manager of List Development and Strategy David Noble said the Crows would keep one eye on the Polec negotiations, while moving on with their trade period strategy.

“We’re disappointed. Jared has made his selection and we respect that, but until a deal is done we’ll hold a hope of being able to do something,” Noble said.

“We’ll fight to the death to see if we can’t secure him. There might not be anything we can do … but we’ll work behind the scenes in regards to where certain other clubs are placed. We’ll make the odd phone call to Brisbane to see how they’re going.

“We respect he’s picked Port. Good on them, they’ve been able to land him. We don’t like it, so we’ll keep trying and also move on to other aspects.”

The AFL Trade Period closes at 1:30pm (SA time) next Friday, October 25.
