February 27, 1991: The Adelaide Football Club’s new Board selected Bob Hammond as chairman at its first meeting.
Rick Allert was appointed deputy chairman and Bob Lee as the club’s director on the Australian Football League. Other members of the Board, elected by South Australian league club directors, were Bob Campbell, Bob Zerella, Adrian Sutter and Rex Chidley.
Hammond played 255 senior games for North Adelaide, Norwood and South Australia. He also coached Norwood from 1974-79, winning premierships in 1975 and ’78.
Meanwhile, Adelaide had a ruck shortage approaching the Foster’s Cup quarter-final against St Kilda. Leading big men Romano Negri and Mark Mickan were unavailable because of injuries, providing an opening for young Norwood ruckman David Pittman.
This year the Adelaide Football Club celebrates the 20th anniversary of its first AFL game for premiership points when it plays Hawthorn in the opening round - two decades after the Crows thumped Hawthorn by 86 points at Football Park.
