Captain Nathan van Berlo has decided against challenging his reprimand for striking Brisbane Lions midfielder Tom Rockliff at the Gabba on Saturday.

Van Berlo has submitted an early guilty plea and accepted a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record.

Contact was made when the Crows onballer attempted to dispose of the ball after being tackled by multiple Lions opponents during the second quarter. The match review panel deemed van Berlo's action in the lowest category of striking (level one). The incident initially attracted 80 demerit points but was reduced to 45 points because of his six-year good record and early guilty plea.

On Monday van Berlo, who had previously never been charged with any offence since making his AFL debut in 2005, said the contact was accidental.

"To be honest, I don't know what more I could have done in that situation, I was just trying to get the ball out as we're instructed to do as players," van Berlo said.

"There was no intent there other than to clear the ball. I like to play hard, play the ball and play in the right spirit of the game.”
