Adelaide three-time Premiership defender Sarah Allan says the Crows’ fierce pressure is behind the side’s impressive defensive record this season.

The Crows have won their past five games in a row and have only conceded an average of 17.83 points.

Speaking to the media fresh off a win in the inaugural Showdown against cross-town rivals Port Adelaide on Friday night, Allan said a strong team-defence was behind the side’s results.

“We bring the pressure, and that’s the goal, to bring the most pressure we can,” Allan said.

“It’s not just the defence, it comes from up the ground, that tackling pressure.

“Our midfielders, who are the hardest workers, they make it easier to defend.

“The forward line prides itself on not only kicking goals but bringing the most pressure a forward line can bring.”

“It’s not just the defence, it comes from up the ground, that tackling pressure.

Adelaide’s back six has been without Chelsea Randall at times during the season, with the Skipper spending some time on-ball and inside-50.

The three-time All-Australian said Randall’s switch had given others an opportunity to step up.

“We all work together and that’s what we focus on,” Allan said.

“There are players like MJ (Marijana Rajcic) who has been around a long time, Chelsea Biddell and Najwa Allen who always play their role and are taking their game to the next level.

“We are always happy when we work together as a unit.”

Despite the side’s recent run of success, Allan says players are refusing to be complacent, with plenty of work still to come in the final four minor round matches.

“We can always get better and that’s how we are going to play better in finals,” Allan said.

“Even if you are winning, there are still things you can learn and improve on.

“The competition is just getting better every year and we have to keep evolving.”

Adelaide will celebrate Pride Round this weekend as it looks to cement its spot in the finals when it comes up against Fremantle at Unley Oval on Saturday afternoon.
