Adelaide List Manager Justin Reid is confident a fair and reasonable deal will be struck with Gold Coast to bring Izak Rankine to the Crows.
Rankine, a South Australian product, last month informed the Crows of his desire to join the Club.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the opening day of the AFL Continental Tyres Trade Period, Reid said formal discussions had begun with Suns’ List Manager Craig Cameron to work out an agreement.
Reid said the Club was still “working through” what the deal looked like with the Suns.
“Our focus is obviously on Izak and getting Izak throughout the Trade Period,” Reid said.
“Craig and I caught up again today, so between now and the end of the week that (getting the deal done) would be ideal.
“Pick No.5 is obviously on the table and we will work through the rest.”
Reid said adding Rankine would boost the Crows’ exciting young forward line.
“We’ve got a young forward line outside of Tex (Taylor Walker) and it’s something we’re building,” Reid said.
“We are certainly excited to hopefully bring an exciting player like Izak into the footy Club.”
Meanwhile, North Melbourne midfielder Jason Horne-Francis has requested a trade back to South Australia and Reid said the Club had been in contact with his management.
“He’s (Horne-Francis) keen to get back to South Australia, so we’ve obviously been in contact with his management group, but we understand the family ties at Port Adelaide,” Reid said.
“That’s certainly a desire of his, but there’s a lot to play out in the Trade Period.
“But as I’ve said, the focus is on Izak and getting him through the door.”
Prior to any trades being completed, Adelaide currently holds Picks No.5 and No.23 ahead of the AFL Draft.
“We’ve been pretty clear, the focus is on bringing Izak in and then focus on the Draft,” Reid said.
“We’ve already invested pretty heavily in this group at the Draft the past four years, so a lot of those guys we’ve contracted into, so we need to continue to expose the list.”
