Rory Sloane is the winner of the afc.com.au fans’ most valuable player title in 2014.
The Crows midfielder finished the season strongly and increased his overall lead in the final round to finish well clear of the next group of players.
But Brodie Smith jumped into second place with an outstanding performance against St Kilda on Sunday, nudging out Patrick Dangerfield.
Ruckman Sam Jacobs, who polled heavily in the last few rounds, finished fourth, followed by Scott Thompson, recruit Eddie Betts and key defender Daniel Talia.
Sloane was voted into the top three by the fans in 11 rounds this year. Brodie Smith made the top three nine times and Dangerfield was the mid-season leader after four consecutive top ranking games (rounds five to eight).
This year’s voting system allowed fans to vote for their three most valuable players after every game.
A maximum of 100 points per game were then awarded, with each player given a percentage of the total votes received to go towards their season tally.
For instance, Sloane received 41% of the total votes in the last round so he received 41 points and extended his overall lead.
Final tally: Rory Sloane 354 points, Brodie Smith 242, Patrick Dangerfield 238, Sam Jacobs 235, Scott Thompson 166, Eddie Betts 121, Daniel Talia 115.
