Adelaide wingman Paul Seedsman has suffered a suspected ACL injury in the dying stages of Thursday night's clash with Geelong at Adelaide Oval.
Seedsman flew high among a couple of players for a mark in the last quarter, but landed awkwardly on his left knee after a significant hyperextension.
The game was stopped for several minutes as the medicab was brought out on to the ground.
INJURY UPDATE: Paul Seedsman
Seedsman was consoled by players from both teams as he was taken from the field.
Crows coach Don Pyke says Seedsman will undergo scans in the coming days but they expect it’s season over for the 27-year-old.
"He’s shattered as you can imagine," Pyke said.
He is the second Crows player to suffer an ACL injury this season after Tom Doedee went down on the same ground in round one.
Erin Phillips and Chloe Scheer also suffered the same fate for the Crows in the AFLW Grand Final on Sunday.
Pyke said he’s not sure if the playing surface at Adelaide Oval is to blame.
"I’m not sure if someone is going to look at the ground or conditions, it's maybe just footy. I’d like to see it stop happening to be honest," he said.
"Unfortunately we now have Tom (Doedee) and potentially now Paul that’s going to miss the season which is disappointing for those two guys.
"Especially in the year when you put in all the work and energy into getting yourself ready for the season, to then have that sort of rug pulled from underneath you is shattering for both and for us as a group."
Meanwhile, there’s some room for improvement in the Crows' forward line with the side averaging just 72 points a game this season.
After generating four more inside 50s than Geelong (53-49), Pyke said the team needs to make more of its opportunities.
"We’ve gone from a couple of years ago being 100-plus pretty regularly and tonight I think we got to 75 (points), but I could probably name half a dozen opportunities that we ripped up either through execution, decision making or patterns," he said.
"We need to have a look at exactly what’s breaking down there, whether it’s our patterns, whether it’s the way we’re kicking the ball, obviously if we kick it at 60 per cent (efficiency) it’s going to make it hard.
"We’ve got nine days now to our next game, we need to make sure our ball use going forward gives us a chance to maximise those opportunities."
