There will be a distinct Italian flavour at the MCG on Sunday for Adelaide’s clash with Carlton.

As part of 2016 Toyota AFL Multicultural Round, each game will have a language theme.

All nine matches will broadcast in one of seven languages available on afl.com.au and the AFL Live App, with Adelaide’s game against the Blues to be called in Italian.

Bi-lingual ’50’ will be painted on each of the 50m arcs, correlating to the theme for the game. Umpires will also have ‘UMPIRE’ translated into Italian at the ‘G’ on Sunday.

Crows defender Daniel Talia has Italian heritage on his Dad Jack’s side of the family.

Club and AFL legend Mark Ricciuto is the captain of the VFL/AFL Italian Team of the Century, which was named in 2007. Adelaide assistant coach Scott Camporeale is also a member of the star-studded team.

Several other current Crows have multicultural backgrounds. Nathan van Berlo’s parents were born in New Zealand, but the family also has Dutch heritage. Brodie Smith has English and Scottish origin, while rookie Paul Hunter also has a parent born in Scotland.

Multicultural Round highlights the contribution different communities have made to Australian Football, while highlighting the extraordinary power the game has in uniting all people of all backgrounds.
