Long-serving Physical Performance Manager Stephen Schwerdt will leave the Crows at the end of the season after accepting a similar role with the Gold Coast Suns.
A member of Adelaide’s inaugural squad, Schwerdt played 25 AFL games for the Club from 1992-94.
He finished his playing career with SANFL club Central District, but returned to Adelaide as Fitness Coach in 1999.
Football Operations General Manager Phil Harper said Schwerdt would fulfil his duties at West Lakes before making the move north.
“Stephen has served the Adelaide Football Club for almost 14 seasons in the key fitness role, after being a player in the early years,” Harper said.
“We are supportive and understanding of this career move and we wish him all the best.
“However, we believe this important role requires continuity, as we head to the finals, and coach Brenton Sanderson is also keen for Stephen to stay with us until the season is over.
“We are already advanced in our endeavours to fill the role.”
Schwerdt’s imminent departure will add to the recent changes to Adelaide’s Physical Performance Department. Last offseason, the Club was bolstered by the addition of respected Strength and Conditioning Coach, Nick Poulos.
Former Crow Matthew Bode, who was part-time in 2011, also moved into a full-time role as fitness coach.
