Adelaide could have up to 16 AFL listed players available for selection in SANFL finals next week.
Under SANFL requirements, players must satisfy the following criteria for selection:
- Played a higher percentage of SANFL games than AFL games
- Played three SANFL games in the second half of the season
Adelaide can also only field a maximum of 17 AFL-listed players under SANFL rules, however given the qualification numbers this restriction will not be applicable.
A total of 15 players have already qualified.
The players are:
- Fischer McAsey 3
- Luke Pedlar 10
- Brayden Cook 15
- Zac Taylor 19
- Billy Frampton 22
- Josh Worrell 24
- Luke Nankervis 27
- James Borlase 35
- Andrew McPherson 36*
- Lachlan Sholl 38
- Ben Davis 40
- Tariek Newchurch 42
- Lachlan Gollant 44
- Kieran Strachan 45
- Brett Turner 46
*Andrew McPherson has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury and will not feature.
Elliott Himmelberg will be the 16th player eligible if he plays SANFL this weekend instead of AFL.
Although Himmelberg will have played more AFL games (11 or 12) than SANFL games (nine or 10), regardless of this weekend, the SANFL’s shorter season (19 rounds as opposed to 23) means he will have played a higher percentage in the State League.
Adelaide will face Port Adelaide in a SANFL Showdown at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
Heading into the final round, Adelaide sits second on the ladder but can still snatch the Minor Premiership with a win and if North Adelaide loses to Sturt.
Saturday’s Round 19 clash gets underway at 3.20pm as a curtain raiser to the AFL Showdown.
