Adelaide defender Will Hamill has experienced plenty of lessons in the AFL system.

In four seasons at the Club, the 21-year-old has totalled 35 games at the top level after spending his first year (2019) finding his feet in the SANFL.

An unfortunate run of concussions hasn’t helped, but Hamill has played nine of the past 10 games available - missing just the Melbourne clash.

So in 35 matches in the AFL, what has stood out as the biggest lesson for Hamill?

“The biggest learning curve would probably be when you play that AFL level there's just superstars everywhere,” Hamill said.

“You can't be switched off that little moment or obviously you get punished.

“It makes you a better player because then you’re concentrating the whole time.

“It’s a bit different to back when you’re playing under 18s.

“You might get someone who’s not quite at the level and then you step up to AFL (and) you’re playing against superstars the whole time.”

With a steady run of games under his belt, save for the concussion costing him Round 16, Hamill said he was revelling playing against the biggest names in the game.

“It was pretty cool playing on Luke Breust a couple weeks ago,” Hamill said on Wednesday.

“I was a big Hawks man (growing up), especially watching Breust through the premiership and then get to play on him, that was pretty cool.

“Then obviously playing against Buddy last year was pretty special, he’s a bit of a god figure.”
