AFLW co-captain Chelsea Randall has climbed to the top of the leaderboard in the AFL Coaches’ Association Champion Player of the Year award.
Randall, who has polled votes in all four games this season, received nine from coaches Bec Goddard and Alan McConnell in Adelaide’s draw with Greater Western Sydney on Sunday.
The reliable and fearless defender finished with 15 disposals, six tackles, four marks and four rebound 50ms at a rain-soaked Blacktown International Sports Park.
Well on her way to a second-consecutive All Australian crown, Randall leads the League in contested possessions (49) and rebound 50ms (18) and ranks third overall for disposals (74). She is Champion Data's highest-ranked player in the competition, averaging 181 ranking points per game.
The West Australian (26) now sits two votes clear of Western Bulldogs midfielder Emma Kearney (24) in the prestigious award.
Giants vice-captain Alicia Eva, who was the leading possession winner on the ground with 22, also received nine votes on Sunday.
In her return from suspension, Crows joint-vice captain Ange Foley was awarded three votes. Foley topped Adelaide’s disposal count with 19 in a typically composed display in defence.
Midfielder Ebony Marinoff was the only other Crow to attract votes (two). Marinoff won 13 possessions and set a new AFL/W record for tackles with a remarkable 21.
