Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks says there is still selection pressure with the Club’s State League side in good form, despite entering this weekend’s clash against the Giants unchanged.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Nicks said the selection committee decided to reward the players who fought hard for the wins against Richmond and the Western Bulldogs.

“There was still a fair bit to talk about (in the match committee),” Nicks said.

“But in the end we went with the same team that played some really good footy last weekend and deserved to go again.

“We got our roles done, brought the style of footy we wanted to bring and got the result we were after.

“We’ve been really pleased with how the group has been progressing, they’ve shown some real maturity over the past couple of weeks.

“It’s nice to keep that group together but still have that pressure from below.”

“It’s nice to keep that group together but still have that pressure from below.

Nicks said there were some unlucky players to miss out but that the pressure from the SANFL side was positive.

“When a team is getting a job done and when there’s 22, sometimes 23 players who are playing an important role in that, you want to stick with it,” Nicks said.

“Some of the best clubs in the competition no doubt have pressure from below.

“They’ve got guys performing there which keeps everyone on edge at a higher level.

“We are really pleased as a coaching group to have some of those conversations.”

Adelaide takes on GWS at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, with the first bounce at 1.40pm.

Nicks said his side was bracing for the Giants to “come and fight”

“They’ve got super talent and they’ve also got the ability to fight and take the game into that style of footy.

“We enjoy that style so that will make for a really good match-up but we’ve got to bring our best to get it done.

“We want to play in big games and we want to stand up in big games and we felt like we have done that the past few weeks.

“To be challenged by some of the best teams in the competition and then stand up - we’ve got to do that again this week otherwise the last couple of weeks don’t mean much.”
