Inspired by Adelaide’s third AFLW premiership, some of the state’s best young footballers have donned Crows guernseys as part of the Club’s Bridgestone Crows Academies programs.
The under-15 side played Port Adelaide’s Academy in a ‘Showdown’ on Wednesday and claimed a 16-point victory against its crosstown rivals.
Adelaide’s side, which was coached by two-time AFLW Premiership star Courtney Cramey and development coach Jack Hombch, defeated Port Adelaide 8.3 (51) to 5.5 (35) at Alberton Oval.
Rising stars Eloise Mackereth and Alexis Nieass led the way up forward with two goals apiece, while Matilda Wilmore, Eloise Mackereth and Maggie Clarke also impressed.
The Bridgestone Crows Academies brings together the best under-15 female players in the state who have been nominated by the Club’s four next generation aligned clubs - North, Central, Glenelg and Sturt.
Crows Academies Manager Jarrod Meers said the program had unearthed some “exciting young stars” and the win was a result of their hard work and dedication.
“Over the past few years this NGA Showdown game has provided our club with a first look at future AFLW players,” Meers said.
“In 2022 we have executed another wonderful Crows Academies program for 30 young South Australian female footballers who can take with them so many learnings of what it takes to be reach AFLW level”
“Furthermore, what an amazing year for these girls to be a part of our Crows Academies program – during another AFLW Premiership Year for our club.”
The 2022 Crows female Next Generation Academy kicked off in December and Wednesday’s ‘Showdown’ was the culmination of the program.
Players will now return to their local junior clubs before the under-16 SANFLW competition kicks off later this year.
Crows AFLW-listed players including Montana McKinnon, Brooke Tonon, Zoe Prowse and Teah Charlton are past players of the Club’s female academy.
