Adelaide’s latest Rising Star nominee Josh Rachele says he is honoured to receive a nod for his performance against Essendon.
But Rachele, who also celebrated his 19th birthday on the day his nomination was announced, said notching more wins and strong team performances would mean more.
The youngster booted three goals and collected 19 touches in the Crows’ four-point loss to Essendon at Marvel Stadium on Sunday to be named the AFL’s Round Four Rising Star nominee.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Rachele said he was proud of how he had kicked off his inaugural season with the Crows - but team success was what he craved.
“It was exciting news to find out,” Rachele said.
“I think it is good recognition individually, but obviously you play footy for the team aspect.
“We are one and three at the moment and we definitely want to start winning a few more games.
“We are competitive and we keep striving to win.”
Rachele leads Adelaide's goal-scoring tally for the season with 11 after joining the Club via Pick No.6 at the 2021 NAB National Draft.
He credited the work he’s put in at training and his teammates for his solid form so far.
“It just comes down to the repetition you do at training,” Rachele said.
“I think it also comes back from a young age, always playing like you’ve got a chip on your shoulder, always being the smaller type and always having to work harder to get where I’m at.
“It’s (also) credit to our midfielders and our forwards for getting me the ball.
“We are playing a good brand of footy at the moment and if we can continue to do that, I’ll keep kicking goals if I can.”
