One of the organisers of the AFLW’s stingiest defence is demanding more of the same in Saturday’s Grand Final against Melbourne.

Adelaide key defender Sarah Allan said there were no secrets to the success of a group that conceded only 187 points in ten minor round games this season and then 26 in the preliminary final against Fremantle last Saturday.

“I think it’s because we work together as a unit, we are not about individual accolades,” three-time All Australian Allan said.

“We are all about working together and I think that’s what works best.

“With Chelsea Biddell dropping back into defence, to have that extra aerial tall taking heaps of marks has been amazing. And obviously having Chelsea (Randall) back into it will help even more.”

Randall, who missed the 2021 Grand Final through concussion, returned to the side two matches ago after hamstring issues and starred in defence with a dozen intercepts in the preliminary final.

“It’s amazing to have her back,” Allan said. “Obviously it’s been great experience (for me) this season but I’m definitely happy to have her back.”

Allan, 24, is one of 12 Crows to own two premiership medals from the 2017 and 2019 wins.

Thirty-one Crows are AFLW premiership players and Allan hopes to introduce more to the Cup club on Saturday by helping them embrace the pressure.

“We’ve got new girls in the team who have never experienced it before and hopefully we can get around and support them,” said Allan, who played her 50th AFLW game on Saturday.

“But you want to enjoy it, you want to soak up the week, it is an exciting week. To be a part of it again is amazing.”
