A five-goal haul from Lachlan Gollant and four majors to Luke Pedlar helped Adelaide to a 28 point win over Norwood in Saturday’s SANFL trial match at West Lakes.

Gollant and Pedlar were prolific, particularly in the first quarter, as the Crows flew out the blocks to take a 43-0 lead, before the Redlegs hit back to cut the margin to 34 points at quarter-time.

Despite plenty of momentum swings and Norwood stealing the lead midway through the third quarter, Adelaide proved too strong, winning 18.7 (115) to 13.9 (87).

Adelaide SANFL Senior Coach Michael Godden said AFL-listed midfielder Jackson Hately (24 disposals) was strong and worked hard at the stoppages, while the defensive unit, including Billy Frampton (22 possessions, 10 defensive rebounds), also held up well.

“There were some really good individual performances with Lachie Gollant kicking five and he looked dangerous all day both in the air and on the ground,” Godden said.

“Luke Pedlar kicked three in the first quarter… he then found it a bit tough through the middle stages but finished with another one (goal) later which was great.

“Jackson Hately was really good through the midfield, he worked tirelessly, spread hard and used his craft around the stoppages.

“I thought Billy Frampton was really strong down back - him and Ben Davis - who also gave us some really good dash, instruction and leadership from the half-back line.”

"He looked dangerous all day both in the air and on the ground.

Godden told AFC Media he was most impressed with his side’s ability to swing the momentum back in its favour, after a string of Norwood goals in the third quarter.

“The pleasing thing for me was the way the players rallied and they found a way to get back in the game and ultimately kick enough on the score,” Godden said.

“It’s not about the win in a trial game, but it’s about being challenged and can you rise to the occasion. That was a really pleasing aspect of it.”

Godden said new recruits Zac Taylor (14 touches) and Luke Nankervis (12 possessions) also showed promising signs, while SANFL-listed Nathan Freeman (17 disposals) was solid.

“It was another game under the belt for Zac Taylor who played through the midfield,” Godden said.

“Luke is playing as a medium-sized forward in a bit of a smaller forward line, so he’s doing a lot of work for us and he’s a real competitor and gives everything he’s got.

“Freeman was dangerous - kicked two goals - Chris Hall was good, Jack Lewis came on and had some impact.

“Isaya McKenzie was the same, Jacob Templeton came on and played some good minutes and Jay Boyle through the middle and did some really nice things.”

Adelaide opens its SANFL campaign with a clash against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Friday, April 1, at 4.10pm.

The game is the curtain raiser to the AFL Showdown.
