Adelaide Captain Rory Sloane believes his side has made plenty of improvements ahead of the AFL season kicking off.
Speaking at the AFL Captain’s Day on Wednesday, Sloane told reporters the Crows had a good blend of youth and experience ahead of their 2022 campaign.
“For us it’s about constant improvement and we feel like we’ve made those gains this year,” Sloane said.
“For us it’s been about, ‘How do we get better?’ and, ‘What areas do we get better in?’
“We’ve certainly got some games into some guys that we’ve needed to across the last couple of years.
“If you look at our squad, I think Jordon Butts, Harry Schenberg, Sam Berry, Lachie Sholl, there are a lot of guys who we got a lot of game experience into.
“Then we start adding Wayne Milera, Jordan Dawson and Matty Crouch - it’s so good to see (Crouch) back smiling, playing footy and doing what he loves to do.
“We are starting to add a little bit more experience around these young kids who have had that bit of exposure.”
The skipper was proud of his teammates for the way they had attacked pre-season.
“There’s been some really solid grounds made by some of our younger guys and some of our senior guys as well,” Sloane said.
“That’s what excites me coming into games now.
“What I was most pleased with our group was the amount of guys who got together and trained throughout the off-season and put in the work and trained hard and worked harder.
“You train hard for the whole summer and then you come up against opposition and that’s the real test.”
Adelaide plays Fremantle in Round One at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, March 20, at 3.40pm.
“I mean, everyone says the same things and you feel like you’ve had a really strong pre-season,” Sloane said.
“But it’s exciting… It’s the whole unknown when you come into games,” Sloane said.
“I’ve been part of some great footy over the years and I know for me and guys like Tex and Brodie Smith, it’s about how do we provide these younger guys the same opportunity we’ve had?
“We obviously want to be a part of that success and help drive it.”
