Adelaide AFLW Senior Coach Matthew Clarke says star midfielder Ebony Marinoff’s work ethic is the driving force behind her 50 game milestone this weekend.
Marinoff will be among the first in the league to reach the 50 games when Adelaide takes on Collingwood at Norwood Oval on Sunday.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Clarke said the two-time premiership player, reigning AFLW Club Champion, inaugural Rising Star and three-time All Australian deserved every accolade that had come her way.
“She’s a trailblazer in the competition,” Clarke said.
“(She gives) unconditional effort,it doesn’t matter where in the season… she’s got one gear and it’s flat out.
“Knowing you’re going to get that regardless of the scenario is a nice place to start from and the other thing I have enjoyed is her thirst to get better.
“Her workrate is phenomenal, she’s been able to just consistently train and therefore consistently play across the entire duration of the competition as it’s existed.
“It’s a significant milestone and we are really pleased for her.”
Collingwood is coming off a strong victory against West Coast while the Crows also enter Round Nine clash with a confidence-boosting win over Fremantle.
Although the Magpies have some big names out, including co-captain Brianna Davey and Brittany Bonnici (ACL injuries), Clarke expects a tough battle.
“They’ve had to do without Bri since the start of the season and the Bonnici going down last week which was enormously disappointing for the competition,” Clarke said.
“But if you look at their form line in the past two weeks, they’ve really got themselves going again.
“The reality is that their best footy has been in the past fortnight and we are getting them on the upswing."
Adelaide will celebrate Indigenous culture against Collingwood in front of fans at Norwood Oval on Sunday, March 6, with the first bounce at 2.40pm.
The match, which is proudly sponsored by BHP, will include activities for families, as well as a special pre-match performance by Kuma Karru.
