Adelaide has recognised the contribution of four key figures from both on and off the field by awarding them life membership.
Long-time statisticians and volunteers, Bob Shoolbread and the late Don Bailey, former Director Jim Hazel and former player and coach Tom Lynch were honoured at an official Club event on Tuesday night.
Bailey – who passed away in 2019 and has been posthumously awarded life membership – and Shoolbread shared 25 years together at the Club from 1991 to 2014 where they served as statisticians and filled a number of roles both on match day and throughout the week to assist the football department.
They were regulars at morning and afternoon training sessions, helping to prepare equipment and assist the property steward.
Hazel served as a Director from 2010 to 2021 and during that time was a key figure in the Club’s move to Adelaide Oval, as well as the formation of the women’s team.
Among his other contributions, Hazel re-wrote the Club’s Constitution and Board charters and chaired the Finance committee for seven years while being an experiencedcalm and level head around the boardroom table.
Lynch joined Adelaide as a player in 2011 after beginning his career at St Kilda and went on to become one of the Crows’ most consistent performers.
He played in the Club’s 2012 pre-season premiership side and was its leading goal kicker in 2013 when he became just the third Crow to kick 10 goals in a game.
He had multiple top-10 finishes in the best-and-fairest and was elevated to the Club’s leadership group in 2017 while being nominated for the All-Australian team.
Lynch finished with the Crows in 2021 having played 158 games and kicked 199 goals in 10 seasons while also fulfilling a coaching role with Adelaide’s AFLW team under Matthew Clarke.
