Brooke Tonon’s six-goal haul with Glenelg in the SANFLW a fortnight ago caught plenty of people’s eyes.

But her versatility and determination are what helped the youngster earn an AFLW call-up, according to Crows Senior Coach Matthew Clarke.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Clarke revealed Tonon would make her long-awaited debut in the Round Seven clash against GWS at Henson Park on Saturday.

Clarke said the 18-year-old could play in a variety of positions and would be a welcome addition to the side, as it looked to atone for last week’s one point loss to the Bulldogs.

“We are going to have a debutant in Brooke Tonon, who will play her first game for the Club, which is really exciting,” Clarke said.

“She kicked six goals one a couple of weeks ago (in the SANFLW) but she’s also trained back with us quite a bit so we will probably start her across half-back.

“Throughout the pre-season she trained at both ends of the ground and even a little bit on the wing.

“We hadn’t really pigeon-holed her in one particular position, we were just keen to see what she had in all areas of the ground.

“Obviously what we’ve seen is a young player who has worked amazingly hard, hasn’t put a foot wrong and clearly has demonstrated some really good form at SANFL level.

“We are really excited that she's going to get her opportunity.”

Tonon was selected with Pick No. 20 at the 2021 AFLW Draft.

She enjoyed a standout 2021 season, winning a SANFLW premiership with Glenelg and earning selection in the SANFLW Team of the Year as a defender.

The Mount Gambier teenager also represented South Australia at the under-19 AFLW Championships last year and was a member of the Crows Academy.

“Debuts are always interesting and you never know which way they are going to go,” Clarke said.

“But she’s a fairly calm and measured individual so I think she will handle the occasion well.

“She’s excited, her family is extremely excited.

“She competes really hard and she’s got great skills and also her contest skills, so we’ll see how she goes.”

Clarke said the players were hungry to return to the winners’ list and ready for the clash with the Giants.

“There’s an appetite to get back to the level we believe we are capable of,” Clarke said.

“We want to win whenever we possibly can because the competition is really even.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt about the want, it’s just a matter of playing the way we want to right from the start.”

Adelaide takes on GWS at Henson Park, NSW, on Saturday February 19.

The first bounce is at 2.40pm (ACDT).
