The Crows Children’s Foundation will donate $50,000 to Autism Spectrum Australia this year as they build the only school in South Australia for children on the autism spectrum.
The Aspect Treetop School will be located on the former Ashford Special School site and will open to 40 students later in 2016. The Foundation is pleased to be involved in this fantastic innovation.
Our donation will contribute towards the school’s playground equipment, vital to help children with autism achieve key developmental outcomes.
Through active play, children will develop core strength, coordination and gross motor skills. Playground equipment provides much needed sensory stimulation and promotes outdoor recreation for students, who can be disengaged during play and break times.
Children attending this school will stay for an average of two years after which time they will be transitioned to more mainstream schooling for the remainder of their education.
Christa Bayer from Autism Spectrum Australia said the school and play equipment would help SA kids on the autism spectrum for years to come.
“A contribution from the Adelaide Crows Children’s Foundation towards this much needed playground equipment represents a sustainable investment in the health and wellbeing of children with disability in Adelaide, and will deliver ongoing value to generations of students with autism,” Bayer said.
Foundation Board Member, Kyle Hartigan and Crows Captain, Taylor Walker were on hand to meet some of the students and launch the Foundation’s charity partnerships for season 2016.
In addition to this $50,000 contribution to support children with autism, the Childhood Cancer Association will receive a donation of $21,900 to cover the cost of two Michael Rice units - which provide free accommodation to country/interstate families, whilst their child is undergoing treatment at the Women's and Children's Hospital, totalling 730 nights of support.
The Salvation Army, have been granted seed funding of $18,000 to support STREETDREAMS, a hip hop dance program, based in Mt Barker that inspires young people aged 8–18years to reach their full potential in physical, mental and emotional health.
In total over $119,000 will be donated to children’s charities, as we continue our support of the Women’s’ & Children’s Hospital Foundation, for the second year.
The Foundation will also deliver a health and well-being program, Growing with Gratitude, to 40,000 primary school children, run a range of Indigenous Programs and provide quality match day experiences where possible to sick and disadvantaged children.
