She booted a game-high four goals in Adelaide’s 30-point victory over reigning premiers Brisbane in Round One at Noarlunga on Sunday.

But it was Ashleigh Woodland’s fourth-quarter boundary line snap that earned her an AFLW Goal of the Year Nomination.

Woodland, who was drafted to the Crows in 2021 after playing four games with Melbourne, said she was shocked the snap went through the big sticks.

“I’m not sure what was going through my head,” Woodland told the media on Monday.

“I just heard Noffy (Ebony Marinoff) yelling at me to run. I don’t know, it sort of just went my way when it hit the boot.

“I didn’t really think much of it, it just went on the boot and went through.

“It was a surprise to me as well as to the fans, I think.

“(Snapping goals like that) is not really a main focus because you don’t often get those shots.

Ashleigh Woodland guaranteed the Crows the win after four goals at Noarlunga in Round 1.

“But we do put a few ground balls and quick snaps off one step or two steps in our pre-game and training to interpret a game.”

Woodland said her four-goal haul was the result of her teammates’ hard work and she was just happy to be on the end of it.

“The connection we have this year is amazing,” Woodland said.

“To get that first win on the board, it was just really exciting for us.

“I wouldn’t be able to score the goals I did without the movement of Erin Phillips, Danielle Ponter and the rest.

“It’s not just ‘I’ve scored the goals’, it’s all of us in the forward line.

“One week it could be me scoring four goals, the next it could be Erin Phillips or Danielle Ponter or Justine Mules.”

Adelaide takes on North Melbourne at Norwood on Sunday at 2.40pm ACDT.

Woodland said her side was looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd again and was eager to put up another strong performance.

“I think there’s a few things we have to tighten up for our next game against the Kangas but we’ll just build on this,” Woodland said.

“We love Norwood and it will be good to have our fans out there.

“It’s a bit closer so you can hear all the fans and the members so it’s great to play at Norwood, we love it there.”
