Hannah Munyard is no stranger to playing football at Flinders University Stadium.
It was the South Adelaide product’s home ground before making her way to the Crows.
The midfielder is one of five Adelaide players to have come through the ranks at South Adelaide, with Montana McKinnon, Nikki Gore, Tea Charlton and Lisa Whitley also being former Panthers.
And when the Crows Round One clash was changed to be against Brisbane at Munyard’s old stomping ground as the league continued to navigate its way through Covid-19, she could not contain her excitement.
“I think we have five of us from South… I am very excited to play there hopefully,” Munyard said.
“With it being such a wide ground and very similar to West Lakes with how wide it is and the weather - it gets quite windy at West Lakes and also down at South Adelaide.
“I think we are very well prepared to play there and hopefully we have the advantage with the girls who know the ground quite well.”
The 20-year-old told the media on Friday she had been working hard to improve her fitness and skills during the off-season and was excited to get back playing after a long lay-off.
“We’ve had a pretty long pre-season, I think it’s the longest one so far,” Munyard said.
“We are obviously extremely excited for Round One to kick off and for all the hard work to be put into play.
“Last season I had a lot of injuries and I wasn’t able to get the full pre-season I needed to be able to play out a whole season.
“I really worked hard on getting fit and sharpening up my skills so I’ve been working really hard on that this pre-season so hopefully I’m ready to go.”
Munyard, who was traded to the Crows from the Western Bulldogs ahead of the 2021 season to be closer to family, said kicking off Season Six with a win was important.
“We are dying to beat them (Brisbane) and it’s going to be a great game,” Munyard said.
“Playing here in Adelaide is hopefully an advantage to us and it’ll be great to see how many fans we can get down to South Adelaide.
“The members have been great and I’ve seen a lot of tickets sold already.
“I can’t wait to play in front of a home crowd, it’s going to be absolutely unreal.”
The Crows take on Brisbane in a Grand Final rematch on Sunday, January 9, at Flinders University Stadium at 1.40pm.
