Adelaide has nearly a full squad to pick from ahead of its AFLW season opener against Brisbane on Sunday, with only one player unavailable due to injury.
Dayna Cox had been on a modified program this pre-season due to a hamstring issue but during that time injured her knee.
Crows Head of Women’s Football Phil Harper said the two-time premiership player would undergo arthroscopic surgery in coming days and would be on the sidelines for up to a month.
“It is disappointing for Dayna because she’s had an extended problem with this hamstring for a while, and now it’s a knee causing her trouble,” Harper said.
“But our medical team thinks once she has the surgery she should be up and running again.”
Harper said having almost a full squad to pick from was a great position to be in as the Crows looked to kick off their 2022 campaign with a win.
“It’s a testament to our high performance team and our medical people,” Harper said.
“To be able to get to Round One and only have one player unavailable due to an injury is as good as it’s been for us in the history of our team playing in the AFLW.
“We think Brisbane is the best side in the competition, they proved that against us in the Grand Final last year.
“If you want to be the best, and our girls definitely want to be, you’ve got to beat the best.”
The Crows take on Brisbane in a Grand Final rematch on Sunday, January 9, at Flinders University Stadium at 1.40pm.
