Adelaide AFLW Captain Chelsea Randall is expecting this season to be a bumper one, with the competition getting stronger each year.
But she’s backing her side to rise to the challenge.
The Crows have just 18 days until they open Season Six of the AFLW competition with a clash against Fremantle in Perth.
Randall, who will enter her second campaign as Adelaide’s standalone skipper, says her side is ready and she is putting no limits on how far the team can go in 2022.
“Round One against Fremantle is going to be really exciting,” Randall told AFC Media.
“Last year in Round Two they got us at our home ground and it really hurts when opposition teams get you at your own ground.
“We are really looking forward to taking them on and I know it’s going to be a really hot contest.
“I think the entire competition has just jumped to an entire new level.
“It’s going to be a cracking season, the talent across the opposition is getting better and better.”
Players were given a week off for Christmas but Randall expected them to train through their mini holiday ‘break’ ahead of the battle with the Dockers on January 8.
“It doesn’t really stop for us,” Randall said.
“Our players will obviously have Christmas Day with their families or friends.
“Just with the Covid situation a lot of players are deciding to stay in Adelaide and train with one another.
“They are making a lot of sacrifices with their families to give everything they’ve got to this AFL program.
“We’ve never played (AFLW) games in January before or as early as this, so it’s really important for all of us to continue to make sure we are in the best position physically and game-wise, ready to go.”
Adelaide’s first home match will be in Round Two against North Melbourne at Norwood on Sunday, January 16.
Randall encouraged all supporters and fans to get behind the side as it looked to win a third AFLW flag.
“We love playing footy in front of our fans, Members and our supporters,” Randall said.
“Words can’t quite describe what it means to be able to play football in front of a massive crowd of people cheering you on.
“I think we have the best supporters in the entire AFL and AFLW competitions, so I can’t wait to play in front of them.”
