Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks says he is keen to be part of the Crows’ bright future after putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Nicks will remain at the helm until at least the end of 2024 after signing a two-year contract extension on Monday.

Speaking to the media, Nicks said putting pen to paper before his contract was up would help him build on the connection and culture that was being created.

“It’s excitement to now be part of more of a medium-term future instead of a short-term one,” Nicks said.

“This is just a nice way to get around the playing group who have also signed on the last couple of years and now be part of that going forward.

“I want to be part of the future of this footy Club. I am really confident... We are going to see success sooner rather than later.

“The best part about this is that we’ve got a lot of good people here and I am now privileged to be one of those going forward.”

“I want to be part of the future of this footy Club.

Nicks said the Club had gone through plenty of challenges since he first took the reins in 2020 but believed it had only strengthened the group and its hunger for sustained success.

“We have a lot to learn and we’ve learnt a lot over the last two years and you do that by going through challenges,” Nicks said.

“Last year was huge for our young side. We won some games that some would’ve expected we weren’t going to win.

“We’ve got a fantastic group of people and that’s the base we are going to build on and we’ll get there.”

Nicks said players had returned from the off-season in good shape and were ready to improve ahead of Season 2022.

“We are looking after what we can do and the boys today trained the house down,” Nicks said.

“With a bit of luck and things on our side, our guys will give it a crack.”
