SCOTT THOMPSON FROM MELBOURNE FOR PICK NO.12 (DANNY MEYER) - 2003
Thompson’s return to his home state was struck in a three-way deal between Adelaide, Melbourne and West Coast.
The ex-Demon suffered through four injury-riddled seasons at Melbourne after being selected at pick No.16 at the 2000 AFL Draft.
Adelaide, keen to help Tyson Stenglein return to Perth, the Crows took West Coast’s No.12 pick in exchange for the midfielder, before sending it to Melbourne for Thompson.
Thompson, who went on to become one of the competition’s toughest midfielders, featured in 269 AFL games for the Crows and tallied 30 disposals or more on 73 occasions in the tri colours.
He also claimed an All Australian jumper (2012), two Malcolm Blight Medals (2011, 2012) and a third-place finish in the Brownlow Medal (2012), before retiring in 2017 at 34 years old.
WAYNE CAREY FROM NORTH MELBOURNE FOR PICK NO.2 (DANIEL WELLS) AND PICK NO. 18 (KRIS SHORE) - 2002
He was arguably one of the competition’s greatest ever centre-half forwards and, after reportedly turning down offers from other Clubs, the Crows won Wayne Carey’s signature.
Carey arrived at Adelaide in 2003 from North Melbourne at 32 years old.
The Kangaroos traded him to the Crows in exchange for pick No.2 and pick No.18.
Carey had 244 games, 671 goals, two premierships, seven All Australian jumpers and four Club Champion awards to his name.
He kicked four goals on debut for the Crows in 2003 and finished with 29 majors from 16 games.
A month after kicking six goals against Essendon in 2004 a serious neck injury ended his career.
North Melbourne, meanwhile, selected Daniel Wells at pick No. 2 and he went on to play 243 games for the club.
The second pick was used on Kris Shore, who did not play an AFL game.
