Adelaide list manager Justin Reid says securing Jordan Dawson is the Club’s priority for the 2021 trade period.
The AFL’s Trade Period starts on Monday and, last week, Swan Jordan Dawson informed the Crows of his desire to join the Club.
Speaking on AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday morning, Reid said the Club was pleased to have the South Australian product choose Adelaide.
He said the Club had begun preliminary discussions with Sydney.
“The focus for us is looking to get the deal done and working through that with Sydney,” Reid said.
“We’ll have some chats with Sydney and we’ll work through what’s fair and reasonable.
“Getting that phone call (from Dawson) a week or two ago now, it was a great phone call to get, not just for the Football Club but for the members.
“Nicksy, the players and the coaches are laying some great foundations, so we are really keen for Jordy to be part of that going forward.”
Should the Club secure a trade for Dawson, Reid said his elite kicking skills would be an asset for the Crows.
“He’s (Dawson) certainly got some flexibility,” Reid said.
“He can play numerous roles.
“We’ve kept an eye on him since he was drafted in 2015 but we think centre-forward, using his kicking inside-50, up through the wing, half-back mid.
“It’s about getting him to the Club and building relationships and some cohesion.
“We’ve got a bit of work to do over the next fortnight but he’ll certainly add to the group for sure.”
Reid said selecting some “high-end” talent at the Draft in November would also be a priority.
He said the Club was on its way to having the right mix of experience and youth.
“We certainly had a focus… (with) Smith, Laird, Keays, re-contracting them and making sure we’ve got that experience around our youth,” Reid said.
“We will focus on Jordy and then obviously go into the draft.
“Nicky’s probably gone on record (saying) if we can add some speed and power to our list through the midfield or forward of the ball.
“We won’t hesitate to pick anyone from anywhere (in the Draft).
“We’ll back in our environment and Nicksy and the team to keep them around and build on what we are building.”
