Crows Club debutant Jackson Hately received his Adelaide guernsey in Round Six from a well-known fan favourite - Ian Callinan.

The former mature-age rookie returned to the Crows change rooms to present Hately his maiden guernsey.

“Obviously it was a huge honour,” Callinan told The Optus Crows Show.

“I was lucky enough myself to play a few games and I know what it was like to be presented a guernsey.

“For the Club to ring me and give that opportunity, I was absolutely thrilled… especially when they told me it was going to be Jackson, a local Centrals boy.”

Callinan won four premierships with Central District before joining the Crows via the Rookie Draft in 2011.

In 32 matches across three seasons, Callinan booted 49 goals at AFL level before being named the Club’s inaugural SANFL captain.

“I’m still great mates with a lot of the guys I’ve played with at the Crows,” Callinan said.

“I was lucky enough to win some premierships at Centrals but the five years I spent at the Crows were some of my greatest memories.

“I’ve still got some great mates there who I speak to regularly.”

In Launceston, Callinan also gave an update on his health following a stroke in September.

“I’m going pretty well, struggling a little bit with fatigue and concentration but sort of back to full strength in all my movements,” he said.

“The players, the Club in general… their support has been very much appreciated.

“It’s a matter of ticking off the boxes and everything coming back.”

Although his playing days are behind him, Callinan has dived head first into coaching.

“Definitely hung up the boots,” he said.

“I’ll be 39 at the end of the year and I’m really enjoying the coaching side of it.”
