Adelaide’s SANFL and AFL teams will clash with Port Adelaide in an historic double header at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, May 8.
The Round 6 SANFL Showdown was initially scheduled to be played at Alberton Oval but the league today announced it would be moved to Adelaide Oval as a curtain-raiser to the AFL Showdown.
It is the first time the two clubs have met in a SANFL Showdown at the ground with previous meetings held at either Alberton Oval or regional venues.
The game will start at 3.35pm with the AFL Showdown – which is a Port Adelaide home game – set for a 7.10pm start.
The Round 17 SANFL Showdown will also be played on the same weekend as the Crows’ home Showdown on the weekend of August 7-8. Details of the SANFL match will be announced closer to the date in line with the AFL’s rolling fixture announcements.
“For many of the players it will be their first opportunity to play on their club’s AFL home venue, providing them with a valuable experience,” SANFL general manager football Matthew Duldig said.
“It should build nicely into what is always a highly-anticipated blockbuster between SA’s two AFL clubs.”
