Adelaide wingman Lachlan Sholl says he’s a little surprised by a second Rising Star nomination but grateful for the honour.

The 21-year-old joins an exclusive list of players to be nominated twice for the award, also receiving the honour in Round 18 last season.

He finished with 31 disposals at 81 per cent efficiency, eight score involvements and 595 metres gained in Adelaide’s 41-point win over the Kangaroos on Sunday.

Recruited with Pick No.64 in the 2018 draft, the Victorian said the Club’s leaders played a big role in his rise through the ranks.

“I was absolutely rapt to land (at the Crows) and was willing to learn and try my best to develop,” he said.

“Fortunately enough I was in the hands of some really great people, particularly early on, who helped guide me.

“There’s no doubt that there is a level of work that goes into it, but I’m very lucky to have some great people that are here - and also back home - that are supporting me and helping me through whatever it might be, on-field or off field.”

One of those leaders is forward Taylor Walker, who named Sholl one of the three best kicks he’s played with

When asked whether kicking on both sides came easily, the 21-year-old said it all came down to a love of the game.

“Growing up in the junior ranks I always loved to go for kicks,” he said.

“You get comfortable kicking a normal drop punt, then you go to the boundary and kick bananas for a little while.

“Over time you build that capacity to, hopefully, be comfortable enough to go both sides.

“Back then, it was just about loving footy."
