Seven years after retiring from the AFL, former Tiger Daniel Jackson is dusting off the boots for a return to elite-level football with Adelaide in the SANFL’s Good Friday clash with South Adelaide.
Eight years after lining up against Bryce Gibbs when he was at Carlton at the MCG in Round 1, 2013, the pair will renew acquaintances when Jackson and the Crows travel to Noarlunga to play the Panthers who landed Gibbs’ signature when he retired from AFL footy last season.
Jackson, 34, is Adelaide’s leadership development manager and game-day runner who played a SANFL trial game two weeks ago when the Crows were hit by injuries, providing a hardened and experienced body around the footy in a young and developing side.
The former Jack Dyer Medallist retired in 2014 at the age of 28, and with a year left to run on his contract, after a series of hamstring, glute and hip injuries but has maintained his fitness by completing parts of Adelaide’s pre-season running program since arriving at West Lakes last year.
Jackson played 156 games with Richmond from 2004 to 2014 and has been named in Adelaide’s forward pocket for the game against South Adelaide.
He is one of nine debutants at league level for the Crows, alongside AFL-listed draftees Ronin O’Connor, Fischer McAsey and Tariek Newchurch.
James Borlase has been named at half-forward and GWS recruit Jackson Hately in the centre while Riley Thilthorpe has been named to start on the wing.
