Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks says a burst of form late last year will be the framework for the team’s 2021 success. 

The Crows snagged three wins in the last six rounds of 2020 after a challenging year and held their own against a trio of top teams. 

Nicks, who joined the Club ahead of the 2020 season, said that was a crucial turning point for the playing group. 

“We looked at the last six weeks as a group post-season and it wasn’t just the three wins, it was the performance we put out there in five of those six games,” Nicks told AFL.com.au.

“[The] Geelong performance really set up those wins… we were able to push a really high-quality side right to the end.

“It was a great feeling just to see smiles on those faces and a bit of reassurance that the hard work will pay off.”

The Adelaide Senior Coach said that momentum rolled into the preseason and carried the players’ belief in the game plan.

“Ultimately, it was the players that needed to have belief in where we’re going,” he said. 

“There was no doubt the way we played our football, our members and supporters really enjoyed it.


“That’s the direction we’re heading in and that’s what we want from 2021.”

While there’s “no guarantee”, Nicks believes the side’s aggressive style of gameplay will start to pay off in 2021. 

“We will have some challenges around consistency, but we know that, we’ll embrace that and we’ll enjoy doing that,” he said.
