Adelaide defender Will Hamill wants to embrace the challenge for a half-back position brought by breakout Crow Andrew McPherson and new recruit Mitch Hinge.
“There’s certainly nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition,” Hamill told AFC Media.
“You can’t get comfortable, you need to always be striving to improve and get better.
“They’re great players and great guys… I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
The 20-year-old played eight games in 2020 but was limited in the second half of the season following two concussions.
Having spent the last six months building muscle, Hamill is now determined to regain a place in coach Matthew Nicks’ best 22.
“I definitely feel like I can take a few more hits,” Hamill said.
“The medical staff have put in a lot of work on me, which I really appreciate.
“You can always get unlucky, but I think I’m pretty prepared now.”
Ahead of Round One on March 20, Hamill has a simple focus: complete 100 per cent of pre-season.
“I’ve completed all of it so far, which is very positive,” he said.
“I want to complete the full pre-season, every training drill… all of it.
“The Club is a great place to be at the moment, there is great buy-in and everyone is working hard.
“I think we’re all just looking forward to the season starting.”
