Adelaide defender Tom Doedee said he could not “wipe the smile off his face” after he was named interim captain earlier this year.
Skipper Rory Sloane suffered a broken hand in Round Six against West Coast and subsequently missed the next five games.
Doedee was voted by his teammates as the ideal replacement for Sloane.
“I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face when I told my family and my partner,” Doedee said.
“I think the most humbling aspect of it was the playing group agreed to it.
“The fact I was able to run out first, toss the coin, give the speech before the game… it was an incredible experience I’ll never forget (and) hopefully there’s more of that in the future.”
Doedee finished 2020 with nine games after a high-grade hamstring injury cost him the final six games of the season.
The 23-year-old was also full of praise for the Crows faithful during a difficult season for the Club.
“The fact the fans have stuck with us, to have fans at Adelaide Oval, everyone has been relatively positive around the group,” Doedee said.
“The fans have stuck with us the whole way.”
