Crows defender Jordon Butts is set to make his AFL debut in Sunday’s clash with Geelong at Adelaide Oval.
Coach Matthew Nicks confirmed the 20-year-old would become Adelaide’s ninth debutant of Season 2020 during his weekly press conference at West Lakes.
“Butts will debut. Just gave him an opportunity to kick a goal to get in (the team),” Nicks told reporters on Friday.
“He missed, but he’s playing down back, so hopefully he learns from that one if he gets an opportunity on Sunday.”
Butts could replace Daniel Talia in the Crows’ final 22, with the key defender in doubt to face the Cats due to general soreness.
Nicks said Adelaide would give Talia as much time as possible to prove his fitness ahead of teams being lodged on Saturday at 5.50pm ACST.
“Talia’s probably 50-50 at the moment. He’s going to train tomorrow,” Nicks said.
“He got some run-throughs done today, moved pretty well. Obviously a really important one for us with (Tom) Hawkins being in such good form.
“Tals has taken that match-up in the past and done really well. It’s a huge challenge, especially with the form he’s in at the moment.”
If Talia is passed fit, Jake Kelly is expected to go out of Adelaide’s side.
“Jake will probably miss if Tals gets up,” Nicks said.
Adelaide hosts Geelong for Sir Doug Nicholls Round on Sunday with opening bounce at 12.35pm ACST.
