What they said: Trade Period, day one
A look at what was said by some of the key figures during the first day of the 2018 AFL Trade Period.
Justin Reid – Adelaide list manager
On Mitch McGovern…
We’ve had some good dialogue with Carlton today, so we’ll let things play out over the next week or so, but we’ve had some good dialogue to start with.
On Tyson Stengle…
We’re confident on that. Obviously, we’ve had good dialogue with Richmond as well. Blair Hartley and I caught up, so we’ll work through that over the next week as well.
Stephen Silvagni – Carlton list manager
We’re in discussions with Adelaide at the minute. I think we’re getting reasonably close to something (but) how that would look will remain between us and the Crows at the minute.
Mitch is still contracted with the Crows, but the good thing is Justin Reid and I do get on well. He’s trying to do the best deal for his football club and I’m trying to do the best deal for us. The good thing at the minute is we’re both talking, which is a step in the right direction.
Colin Young – Mitch McGovern’s manager
I’ve spoken to Justin [Reid] and Steve [Silvagni] over the weekend and I think all parties are on track so we’re hoping for an early result.
All the conversations Andrew [McDougall] and I have had with Justin over the last few days have been amicable and pretty good, so he’s positive we can get the job done. I spoke to Steve, I think Saturday morning, and it was all positive from everyone talking.
But as I said, it is trade period, and anything can go belly up within minutes.
We’re feeling pretty confident we can get it done sooner rather than later.
