Power win Showdown X
Port Adelaide has defeated Adelaide by eight points in Showdown X at Football Park.
A sell-out crowd was on hand to see the Power recover from a slow start to maintain their top four hopes with a gutsy 16.11.107 to 15.9.99 victory.
The Crows kicked five of the first six goals, with Matthew Clarke starting strongly in the ruck and Andrew McLeod and Mark Bickley in top form in the midfield.
Captain Mark Ricciuto kicked his team's first two goals and a miracle left foot snap by Peter Vardy from the left forward pocket put Adelaide up by 23 points 17 minutes into the match.
Leading by three goals at quarter time, Adelaide kicked three majors in the first six minutes of the second quarter, including a sensational McLeod goal after he carried the ball from the wing, to extend the lead to six goals.
Port coach Mark Williams was forced to move forward Warren Tredrea into defence to help stem Adelaide's onslaught.
But the Power kicked 12 of the next 13 goals from nine minutes into the second quarter to three minutes into the final term to take control of the match.
Wingman Fabian Francis sparked the run with two long goals from the right flank.
Youngster Dean Brogan came off the bench to negate Clarke in the ruck and captain Matthew Primus was moved to full forward, where he booted three goals late in the second quarter.
Midfielder Josh Francou was superb around the packs and particularly good at winning the ball away from contests in the centre square to keep constant pressure on the Adelaide defence.
Defender Stephen Paxman had an excellent game on Darren Jarman, who did not score a goal until eight minutes into the final term, when the Crows were already five goals down.
Paxman also drifted forward to kick a goal late in the third quarter.
Tredrea was a strong forward target, finishing the match with 10 marks and two goals.
The crowd of 49,846 was the highest ever to attend an AFL match at Football Park.
