Adelaide defender Matthew Jaensch’s season is officially over and he will have shoulder surgery next week.

Jaensch, who fell heavily on his right shoulder in the game against Essendon on July 15, returned to a specialist today.

Crows football operations manager Phil Harper said: “The specialist recommended that the best course of action was for Matthew to have a reconstruction, so that will happen next week.

“The good news for Matt is that he will be fit to start the pre-season and then will be ready for competitive training in February, so it shouldn't impact on his preparation for the 2012 season.”

Jaensch, 21, played 13 AFL games this season for a total of 24 in two years with the Crows.
