ADELAIDE coach Neil Craig says he's not concerned by the club's mounting injury toll, despite adding ruckman Brad Moran's name to the list over the weekend.

Moran, 23, missed the Crows' late-season surge after rupturing the posterior cruciate ligament in his knee against the Sydney Swans in round 13.

He recovered in time to start pre-season training with the team but had arthroscopic surgery on the joint last week and will be sidelined until mid-January.

Moran joins Nathan Bock (heel), Ben Rutten (knee), Nathan van Berlo (back), Andy Otten (knee) and Brodie Martin (knee) on the injury list.

Otten will miss Adelaide's entire 2010 campaign after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament at training last week, while Martin is five months into his rehabilitation from the same injury.

Bock, Rutten and van Berlo are also making slow progress.

Bock hasn't played since coming from the field against Geelong in round 18.

He's expected to start running on his troublesome heel this week, but won't join in main training until after Christmas.

Craig said the club would continue to be patient with the All-Australian centre half-back.

"The main thing now is for Nathan to get his heel right. We've got to make sure he's fit and healthy because he's an important player," Craig told afl.com.au.

"Every club gets injuries, but sometimes it's about who those injuries are to and in what position. In that semi-final against Collingwood we didn't have Nathan Bock or Nathan van Berlo, who are two, very high quality, influential players in our team … but that's just an ounce of luck that you need sometimes."

Rutten, who had minor surgery on his knee during the break, is also on track for a January return but van Berlo could be sidelined even longer.

The 23-year-old missed both of Adelaide's finals last season and is still being hampered by stress fractures in his back.

Having a good pre-season is becoming more and more important to players in the AFL, as the game becomes faster and more physically demanding.

But Craig said he wasn't concerned about the amount of training Bock, Rutten and van Berlo had missed.

"We don't want those players [Bock, Rutten and van Berlo] training sore and if that means they need a bit more time off the track, which they're getting, that's what will happen," he said.

"I can assure you though if you came into our gym you would see some sweat under the bikes. They're not in there having a swim and doing backstroke.

"They're experienced players and they know exactly what they need to do to get ready to play and perform, so at this stage I'm not uptight about their lack of preparation."

The Crows will enjoy a lighter week on the track this week after completing what Craig described as a "really tough" start to the pre-season.

Craig will also take a well-earned break later this week when he heads to the United States for a holiday with his family.
