Right time for Crows bye
Three injuries from the Crows round one win mean their second round bye comes at the right time
Scans over the weekend revealed Sloane played out the game with a fractured jaw and thumb.
The thumb injury is likely to see the courageous midfielder sidelined for a month.
He'll see a specialist this week to determine the timeframe for his return from the fractured jaw and whether surgery is required.
Sloane was one of the Crows' most influential players in the first half against the Hawks and midfielder Richard Tambling said the 21-year-old's ability to finish the game with multiple fractures spoke volumes about his character.
"I didn't know too much about Sloaney when I came to the club, but just the way he carries himself at training and in games he's definitely one to crack in," Tambling said on Monday.
"He's one of our tough nuts and I have a lot of respect for him. For a bloke to play through a broken jaw and thumb says lots for him."
Porplyzia will also see a specialist to decide the best course of action for his dislocated shoulder.
The classy forward kicked the opening goal of the game, but was subbed off minutes later when he landed heavily on his shoulder during a tackle.
He played most of the 2008 season with the same injury, and it's likely he'll require another reconstruction, but it's yet to be decided whether he'll have the potentially season-ending surgery straight away or risk further dislocation by playing with the ailment.
Mackay is also nursing a shoulder complaint and has already been ruled out of the club's next game against Fremantle at AAMI Stadium.
The dashing wingman injured his shoulder during the NAB Challenge and copped another knock to the joint on Saturday night.
If Porplyzia avoids surgery on his shoulder he'll have two weeks to recover, with Adelaide having the bye this weekend.
When the AFL fixture was announced last year, the club expressed disappointment in having a bye in the second week of the season but Tambling said the week off had come at an ideal time for the battered and bruised team.
"I think the bye has hit at a perfect time. We obviously had a few injuries during the game and have a few players to come back in," he said.
"Hopefully some good news comes out of the next couple of days. We're hoping to get them [Porplyzia and Mackay] both back, but we don't know the results yet."
Key forward Kurt Tippett will also appreciate the timing of the bye, as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.
Tippett has removed his "moon boot" and is expected to train later in the week.
Jared Petrenko (abdominal strain) should line up in the SANFL this weekend, while ruckman Sam Jacobs is still a fortnight away from playing.
