The Adelaide Football Club supports the AFL and SANFL in welcoming the SA Government commitment of $450m toward the redevelopment of Adelaide Oval.

This investment provides significant potential for the Adelaide Football Club and football generally. Together we will now focus on ensuring that all of the conditions contained in the (cricket and football) Memorandum Of Understanding are fulfilled, such that the potential is fully realised.

From a member and supporter perspective, that potential is in the form of a new world class amenity, more people under cover (which is a vital issue) and an AFL venue in a central, entertainment precinct.

The Club will be proactively seeking member and supporter input as to how we best maximise the potential of playing home games at a CBD location.

For the Club generally, there are opportunities for new categories of membership and corporate offerings, and an opportunity to grow the business.

It should be stressed that while the Club has recently completed a $21m upgrade of its Training and Entertainment Facility at West Lakes, the business model remains intact despite a potential move of games to Adelaide Oval. That is, the Club’s training and administration base stays at AAMI Stadium, and the commercial activities remain. The match day activities and revenue would be enhanced in a move to Adelaide Oval - as a key condition of the Adelaide Football Club.

The State Government funding for Adelaide Oval is a very significant opportunity for football - and our Club specifically, and is a major ‘hurdle’ passed in playing AFL football at that venue. There are now many specific issues and hurdles to pass in ensuring that AFC members, supporters, playing staff and corporates are the beneficiaries of moving games to the City.

To that end, we assure fans that their best interests are absolute priorities as we address the detailed issues.
