Children from northern Adelaide's expanding African community formed the guard of honour for the Crows players at yesterday's home match against Fremantle.

The group of 20, sporting Crows scarves and caps, lapped up the sunshine and the atmosphere out on AAMI Stadium.

Aged between 5-13 years, the children from countries such as Sudan, Liberia and Sierra Leone, have all immigrated to Adelaide in the past three years due to famine, civil war and extreme poverty in their countries of birth.

Crows players were first introduced to the children back in April when they joined Crows players out on the hallowed turf of AAMI Stadium for a kick and a catch before a training session.

The group are involved in the "Sporting Chance Program" which is an initiative of Lutheran Community Care aimed at introducing immigrants to Australian life through sport.

The Sporting Chance Program includes a small AFL program, which was developed with the support of Kilburn and the North Adelaide Football Club.
